Work  /  Professional focus

The work,
in seven parts.

Rajnikant S. Ajmera's responsibilities run from the design of a residential township to the governance of a listed company and the drafting-table arguments of an industry association. Set out below is the shape of that mandate, without projection or estimate.

Chairman & Managing Director Ajmera Realty & Infra India
Module 01 — Mandate

The position, and what it carries

He holds two offices in the same institution. As Managing Director since 1 August 2009 he carries executive responsibility for the running of Ajmera Realty & Infra India Limited. As Chairman of the Board since 25 April 2012 he carries the board's responsibility for the company's direction and its accountability to shareholders.

He is additionally Chairperson of the wider Ajmera Group, whose interests extend beyond the listed company. In July 2024 the Board approved a further five-year term as Chairman and Managing Director, to 31 July 2029.

Module 02 — Discipline

Trained to build

A civil engineer by qualification, with a career in construction and construction-related business spanning more than four decades.

The technical grounding is not incidental. It sets the terms on which the company's work is judged internally — by whether the thing was built correctly and handed over, rather than by whether the transaction cleared.

Module 03 — Core

Residential and commercial development

The principal business: residential and commercial projects delivered across four Indian cities. The Group's earliest reputation was made on housing colonies completed at speed, and residential development has remained the centre of gravity ever since.

Module 04 — Scale

Township development

Bhakti Park at Wadala, Mumbai, begun in 1996, is the reference case — a second phase housing some two thousand families around a twenty-five acre garden. Earlier, the Ajmera Housing Complex at Pimpri, Pune, ran to approximately one hundred thousand square feet.

Module 05 — Land

Acquisition and redevelopment

In 2010, jointly with the Bakeri Group, the company acquired the Calico Mills property in Ahmedabad for approximately ₹350 crore. In 2023 it took on a redevelopment project at Borivali, Mumbai — the form growth takes in a city with little unbuilt land remaining.

Module 06 — Representation

Office held in the industry

Time given to the bodies that set the terms of the trade, rather than to the company's own projects:

  • MCHIPresident, Maharashtra Chamber of Housing Industry
  • CREDAIPresident and Vice President, Confederation of Real Estate Developers' Associations of India
  • CORSMAPresident for many years, Cold Rolled Steel Manufacturers Association of India
Module 07 — Standards & breadth

Certification, governance and the industrial base

He was instrumental in the Group obtaining formal quality certification — initially to ISO 9000:2000 and subsequently to ISO 9001:2015. A certified process regime commits a company to documenting how it works and then submitting to audit against that documentation.

Governance runs on the same principle. The listed company reports on the BSE under code 513349 and on the NSE as AJMERA, and is answerable to shareholders as well as to residents.

Around the property business sits an industrial base: cement, steel rolling and seamless capsules, together with renewable generation through Ajmera Biofuel, which holds a 49 per cent stake in a solar project at Osiyan near Jodhpur, and Contra Power, established in 2012.
